Desperado leads Stingrays to championship

Each year at the Alberta Aquatic Conference hosted by Swim Alberta, a number of awards are presented to deserving recipients for successes during the previous swim season.
This year’s conference (Oct. 1-3) saw the program at the Foothills Stingrays Swim Club (FSSC) acknowledged on two different levels. FSSC was recognized as the 2009 Alberta Provincial Team II champions. This banner is presented to a team with 75 or less competitive swimmers and is based on the performances of the swimmers as they compete in both the short course (25m) and long course (50m) provincial championships.
While the club did well at short course provincial championships, it was the over-the-top performances of the swimmers at long course provincials that clinched the title.
The second acknowledgement of the program had Stingrays head coach Todd Melton presented with the Desperado Award. He was selected by Swim Alberta member coaches as they felt he did the best overall coaching job in addition to significantly contributing to the provincial program. Melton was selected to receive the honoured black cowboy hat.
On accepting his hat, Melton was quick to thank those who were a huge part in him earning his award: the swimmers for their hard work and commitment, his assistant head coach Tom South and assistant coaches Emma Hesterman and Cara Clifford for sharing his vision and providing quality programs.
